TRADISI GIGIT PINGAT UNDANG PETAKA

ATLET taekwondo Serbia, Milica Mandic menggigit pingat emas yang dimenangi dalam kategori 67 kilogram pada temasya Sukan Olimpik Tokyo 2020 semalam. – AFP

PENGANJUR Sukan Olimpik Tokyo memberi peringatan kepada kesemua atlet-atlet yang memenangi pertandingan supaya tidak mengigit pingat yang dimenangi.

Menerusi satu perkongsian di Twitter rasmi penganjur Tokyo 2020 memaklumkan perkara tersebut kerana perbuatan berkenaan boleh meningkatkan risiko jangkitan wabak Covid-19.

“Kami ingin memaklumkan bahawa perbuatan menggigit pingat Olimpik Tokyo 2020 sama sekali tidak digalakkan.

“Pingat tersebut diperbuat daripada bahan kitar semula bersumberkan peralatan elektrik yang disumbang rakyat Jepun. Jadi, tolong jangan gigit tetapi kami tahu anda (atlet-atlet) akan tetap melakukannya,” jelas kenyataan itu.

Temasya Olimpik kali ini berlangsung ketika kadar jangkitan Covid-19 di Jepun masih tinggi menyebabkan penganjur terpaksa mengeluarkan nasihat berkenaan kepada para atlet yang masih meneruskan tradisi ‘menggigit’ pingat ketika bergambar.

Ia mungkin boleh memberi kesan buruk apabila pingat-pingat tersebut mungkin sudah disentuh oleh ramai orang sebelum diberikan kepada mereka sekali gus mendedahkan mereka kepada wabak.

Projek Pingat Tokyo 2020 bermula dua tahun lalu di mana peralatan elektronik terpakai disumbangkan rakyat Jepun bagi menghasilkan 5,000 pingat emas, perak dan gangsa.

Kempen kitar semula itu berjaya menghasilkan 32 kilogram (kg) emas, 3,492.7 kg perak dan 2,199.9 kg gangsa daripada sejumlah 80 tan telefon bimbit, komputer riba dan barangan elektronik terpakai lain. – AGENSI
