KUALA LUMPUR, 29 JANUARI 2022 – Album khas buat peminat muzik di atas sokongan selama 21 tahun Pretty Ugly berada di persada seni mainstream tanahair. Album ini mengandungi 11 buah lagu. Ini merupakan album ke-5 Pretty Ugly yang pernah diterbitkan setelah album ‘Abstrak Versi Fantasi’ 2001, ‘Transformasi Ke Stereo’ 2003, ‘Rockaholic’ 2006 dan ‘Darabkan Sejuta’ 2011.

Berlainan dengan album-album terdahulu, album kali ini merupakan rakaman semula lagu-lagu yang berkumandang di corong radio juga di kaca televisyen. Boleh dikatakan semua lagu yang terkandung pernah menjadi hit. Di antaranya ialah ‘CD Bagasi Honey, Francis Ford Coppola, En Ronald Moore, Superstar’. Dua buah lagu juga pernah menjadi lagu tema buat filem iaitu ‘Diari Seorang Lelaki’ bagi filem Sepi dan ‘Jika Diberikan Ku Satu Peluang’ untuk filem Tolong Awekku Pontianak.

Ada terdapat sebuah lagu ‘Jangan Kau Mimpi’ dan ‘Dirimu Tetap Ku Cinta Walaupun COVID Melanda’. ‘Jangan Kau Mimpi’ dirakam semula sebagai tribute buat Sarah Raisuddin yang telah meninggal dunia baru-baru ini disebabkan COVID-19. Untuk pengetahuan, Neves (penyanyi Pretty Ugly) adalah pencipta lagu dan penulis lirik serta penerbit bagi lagu tersebut yang terkandung di dalam album ‘Mimpi Pun Sama’.

‘Dirimu Tetap Ku Cinta Walaupun Covid Melanda’ pula adalah sebuah lagu baharu berkisah tentang bagaimana sepasang kekasih merempuh dugaan hidup di kala pandemik COVID-19 berlaku. Lagu ini telah dipasarkan secara digital single pada tahun lepas. Mungkin ramai yang masih tidak pernah dengar atau tahu akan kewujudan lagu ini. Disebabkan itulah lagu ini dimasukkan sekali di dalam album PRETTY UGLY 21.

Pretty Ugly muncul dengan album ‘Pretty Ugly 21’

Single untuk album ini adalah ‘5300’. Lagu ini hanyalah sekadar ‘B Side’ di dalam album ‘Transformasi Ke Stereo’ yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2003. Pretty Ugly memang pertaruhkan lagu ini sebagai single untuk album itu. Akan tetapi pihak label terdahulu tidak mempercayai kredibiliti lagu tersebut dan menganggap lagu ‘5300’ tidak cukup komersial. Setelah sekian lama memendam hajat, untuk kali ini Pretty Ugly pertaruhkan lagu ‘5300’ sebagai single.

Mungkin ramai yang tertanya kenapa Pretty Ugly sudah lama tidak merakam album baharu? Merajuk? Kecewa? Menurut mereka, “Sebenarnya banyak juga single yang telah dirakam di sepanjang 10 tahun jarak antara album ke-4 Darabkan Sejuta dan album terbaharu Pretty Ugly 21 ini. Di antaranya ialah Dia Milikmu, No. 1, Bongok, Pasti Kau Milikku. Akan tetapi hanya lagu No. 1 sahaja yang pernah mendapat sambutan. Lagu ini juga merupakan pemenang bagi kategori Muzik Video Terbaik di AIM 2014.”

Manakala lagu Bongok pula tenggelam timbul setelah tajuknya dipersoalkan oleh media tempatan pada masa itu. Lagu itu ditukar tajuk ke ‘B’ setelah mendapat tekanan dan desakan dari pelbagai media pada masa itu. Oleh kerana lagu tersebut menimbulkan kekeliruan bagi pendengar, lama-kelamaan permintaan untuk lagu tersebut pun berkurangan.

“Ya kami agak KECEWA. Disebabkan perkataan BONGOK lagu seolah dibanned dalam senyap. Walaupun lagu tersebut ada potential untuk menjadi hit. Teringat pula kisah lagu En Ronald Moore yang dibanned oleh RTM pada tahun 2001. Oleh kerana pada zaman tersebut, tiada media sosial dan radio swasta masih bergantung kepada sistem halal-haram ‘Rakam Khanah’. Maka label terdahulu mengambil keputusan untuk tidak mempromosikan lagu tersebut walaupun rakaman muzik video telah selesai”. Katanya.

Berbalik semula tentang album terbaharu ini, pada tahun 2021 banyak dana telah dikeluarkan oleh pelbagai kementerian tanahair untuk membantu pelaku muzik dan artis yang terkesan akibat pandemik untuk terus berkarya. Salah satu dari geran yang dipohon CD Bagasi Muzik telah berjaya menjadi penerima dana. Maka pada sekitar bulan September 2021 yang lepas, rakaman pun bermula.

Album ini diberi nama Pretty Ugly 21 bukan sahaja untuk meraikan 21 tahun Pretty Ugly berada di persada mainstream muzik Malaysia. Ia juga kerana album ini dihasilkan pada tahun 2021.

Album ini adalah satu projek di bawah dana CENDANA. Ia hanya dipasarkan secara digital buat masa ini. Akan tetapi pada masa akan datang, kami juga merancang untuk memasarkan album ini secara fizikal. Pretty Ugly 21 akan dipasarkan di semua digital platform pada 31 Januari 2022.
