KUALA LUMPUR, 11 JULAI 2021 – Pelakon Benjy Ibrahim yang juga anak kepada aktres Allahyarham Azean Irdawaty menghembuskan nafas terakhir di sebuah hospital di Medan, Indonesia pada Ahad. Berita pemergian pelakon ini disahkan oleh bapanya, Khairil Anwar Zainal Mukhtar Rashid kepada portal Astro AWANI.

Menurut Khairil atau mesra dipanggil Karl, beliau dimaklumkan anak sulungnya itu meninggal dunia akibat penyakit asma. Karl yang diuji dengan penyakit strok ketika dihubungi berkata, urusan pengebumian Benjy akan dilakukan di Medan.

Jenazah pelakon Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim atau Benjy, 43, akan dikebumikan di Medan, Indonesia esok. Perkara ini diumumkan menerusi kenyataan dikeluarkan oleh adik bongsunya, Inessa Irdayanty menerusi media sosial. Inessa turut bercerita kronologi peristiwa kematian abangnya itu.

“Kami sekeluarga ingin mengumumkan yang abang saya, Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim telah kembali ke Rahmatullah pagi ini.

“Kakak saya, Elza telah menerima panggilan daripada pihak penjara di Medan pagi tadi, memberitahu berita yang Benjy tidak dapat bernafas akibat sakit tenat asma lebih kurang jam 11 pagi (waktu Malaysia) dan cuba dibawa ke rumah sakit di sana tetapi tidak sempat diselamatkan. Benjy sudah lama mengalami penyakit kronik asma dan penyakit paru-paru lain, serta telah banyak masuk keluar hospital dengan kerap untuk beberapa tahun ini,” katanya. 

Inessa berkata, keluarganya juga memberi kebenaran kepada pihak penjara Medan untuk mengebumikan jenazah abangnya di sana.

“Urusan pengebumian akan dijalankan esok. Kami amat berterima kasih dan terharu atas semua bantuan serta sokongan yang telah diberi oleh setiap pihak selama ini. Harap maklum bahawa Benjy turut menghargai anda semua,” katanya yang mewakili keluarga.

Terdahulu, Persatuan Seniman (Seniman) pernah menganjurkan Larian Amal SENIMAN Run 2.0 serta melancarkan Tabung Prihatin Seniman pada Disember 2018 bagi membantu menampung kos perubatan Benjy. Presidennya, Zed Zaidi berkata,  mereka mahu menolong Benjy kerana keadaan kesihatannya berada pada tahap membimbangkan apabila kerap diserang asma dan nyaris mendapat batuk kering.

Pada 2017 lalu, Benjy dijatuhi hukuman penjara 11 tahun di Indonesia atas kesalahan cubaan menyeludup dadah jenis syabu.
