KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Distributor Lotus Five Star with marketing partner Infinity Entertainment Marketing, announces the release of upcoming Chinese movie Tainted Love after a recent movie about online betting scams which shed light on and exposed the inner workings of love scams. It is based on a series of events in China on ‘pig-butchering’ (romance) scammers or syndicate with more than 464,000 cases of fraud committed via phone reported last year alone.

In Tainted Love the film uses the new deception methods of ‘pig-butchering’ as the background for the story. In the movie, Actress Zhou Dongyu plays the titular role as a white-collar city worker fallen victim to an online dating scam and was cheated out of 550,000 yuan.

Fuelled by anger, she followed the clues left by the scammers as she devised her own plan for revenge. Director and screenwriter Ma Yingxin, tell the story from the perspective of deceived women, it not only reveals the truth of the deception, but also explores the status quo of women’s emotional needs. In recent years, the topic of ‘pig-butchering’ has emerged one after another. How many highly educated women have fallen into it? Paying the price of monetary loss and even with their lives. The content itself is a very relatable current social topic that even in Malaysia, for the past 5 years an estimated of more than RM360 million was lost to ‘love scams’ with more than tens of thousands of victims.
